This tribe is for all those who chose to walk barefoot--
either full-time, or part-time. If you live in a climate
that permits year-round barefooting, you are lucky.
If not, then BFing is a seasonal pursuit--and the time
from Halloween to Easter is shoddie time (when
wearing shoes is de rigueur).
---
BFing is liberating. The soles of your bare feet feel
the sensations of all the physical surfaces you walk
over, e.g., cement, asphalt, gravel, dirt (dry, hard,
packed, moist, mushy), tan bark, etc. You watch
where you walk, and obviously avoid the hazards
in your path (e.g., broken glass, chewing gum, etc.).
---
BFing increases the blood circulation in your feet,
and you will use foot muscles that are usually
"trapped" and not fully functioning because of shoes.
---
Blisters, toe cramping, and other maladies caused
by ill-fitting shoes magically go away. Your feet can
feel, breathe, and expand as they were meant to.
---
Not everyone welcomes BFing. "No shirt, no shoes,
no service" (NS3) signs appear now and then.
Avoiding confrontations means having a pair
of flip-flops handy.
---
"Aren't your feet cold?"
"Where are your shoes?"
"You aren't allowed in the store. Health code, you know."
You will hear all of these and similar comments, and
become wittily and brilliantly innovative in responding
to such sayings.
---
But even if you just kick off your shoes and socks
as the first thing when you get home, this tribe is
for you. To paraphrase Nancy Sinatra's old song,
"These boots were made for walking....", I might
modify it to "These bare feet were made for
walking"!
---
Welcome, and thanks for joining. I'm sure we can
all share insights about walking barefoot.

How can you stand to walk like that?( i stand on two legs and feet...)

I like the thought of barefooting....Thanks

Re: Welcome!
Tue, November 25, 2003 - 10:20 PMAfter a while--through trial and error--one can make
a personal inventory of BF-friendly places, and which
ones will pull the NS3 number. When I'm not sure,
I bring along some flip-flops.
I can BF down to about 32F, or freezing. If there is
frost on the roofs of houses in the morning, then
the ground is probably around that temperature too--
BFing feels like walking on dry ice!
"Where are your shoes?"
"I'm wearing them! They're the ones I was born with!"
Thanks for joining, Nikki!

Re: Welcome!
Tue, November 25, 2003 - 10:43 AMI love walking barefoot in the rain during the summer. The ground is still warm and it's just a total sensory experience. It's nice. -

Re: Welcome!
Tue, November 25, 2003 - 10:24 PMWalking barefoot in the rain is a really pleasurable
experience any season of the year. I feel a lot more
surefooted walking BF on wet pavement--there is
far less risk of slipping. Ordinarily I don't especially
look forward to rain--but the chance to BF while
carrying an umbrella makes me smile. -

Re: Welcome!
Wed, November 26, 2003 - 7:59 AMHi, I am new here and thought that I would introduce myself!
I am a barefooter 24/7/365. If I find a place that is not BF friendly then I just choose not to go back there.
I am a member of the Society for Barefoot Living.
My favorite thing to do BF is go hiking or backpacking. I love it! There is nothing else that feels the same on my feet as the changing conditions and it is awesome!
Peace!

Re: Welcome!
Wed, November 26, 2003 - 11:23 PMHi, Jason! I'm an SBL member, too. Can't be 24/7/365.
I work as a bus driver, and have to be in uniform when
at work--and that includes shoes and socks. Bummer!
When I hop into my car to drive home at the end of
the work day, the first thing to come off are my shoes
and socks. Only drive my own care barefoot. I feel the accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals much better BF, and
can grasp the pedals with my toes--which, obviously,
I couldn't do if driving shod. -

Re: Welcome!
Thu, November 27, 2003 - 4:27 PMHey Loren,
Nice to hear that you are from the SBL as well. Luckily I do computer consulting and I can be barefoot 99.9% of the time on the occasions when I do have to wear sh@*s I wear my Birkenstocks.
I totally agree with feeling the pedals better while driving. I think and know that I have better control while unshod and driving i.e my feet don't slip off the pedals.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Peace
