Living in India for the past seven years I've been able to stay barefoot all-year-round on a 24/7 basis. My soles are incredibly tough and I'm doing my best to keep 'em that way. Travelling a lot I'm not even carrying any footwear in my backpack. My soles never get clean, but I love it that way. And I LOVE to decorate my bare feet with toerings, anklets - and whatever else comes into my mind! I've posted a bunch of new photos "Barefoot in Rajasthan". I've spent one month in the "desert state" of India (last November), doing loads of hiking, bushwalking, climbing and cycling. Enjoy my latest pics! And in case you're planning a trip to India: Please mail me! I'll give you my contact-no so that we can meet, doing some serious barefooting together!

Re: Barefoot in Rajasthan
Tue, December 18, 2007 - 4:55 PMHey Andy I will say it's great that you have the freedom and independence to be able to truck around wherever you want barefoot and also have the time to share it with others. I guess what I'm having a hard time understanding, not with just you but some others as well, is the unrelenting preoccupation with going barefoot as if it were some religious calling or mandate or something. Going barefoot is great and I like to do it for many of the reasons you've stated in your general postings but not to the point where it becomes obsessive or fetish-like. I mean there is more to life and the interaction between the human body and the world than being barefoot. -

Re: Barefoot in Rajasthan
Tue, December 18, 2007 - 8:02 PMI'm totally comfortable with walking barefoot everywhere I can including thru the snow every day for firewood. I know when I'm being barefoot in a public place like Walmart I'm pretty sure it's making a statement of some kind. I'm not sure what, maybe independence or something, but I have noticed that some people really are preoccupied with their feet like every other part of their body is unimportant. For me as much as I like going barefoot I also like getting naked when reasonable, not wear shirts or skivies, and other things too but no one thing is overemphasised over every thing else. Feeling the earth under my feet is great just as feeling the warm summer wind or the sun or the sobering chilly water from the creek rushing over my body is great.
