After a week of gray skies, today it was bright, clear,
and sunny--perfect BF weather! In the few open
fields around here, mustard weed is starting to bloom--
a sure sign that Spring will be here soon. After my
BF walks today, my feet were happy, and began to
"sing". :-) It's amazing how a BF walk can elevate one's
mood!

Re: Spring is here?!
Mon, February 2, 2004 - 10:45 PMSimple things make me happy. Being BF is one such
small pleasure.
---
The weather can change greatly from day to day.
Today was Groundhog Day, and the San Francisco
Bay Area was hit with a heavy rainstorm. People
actually drove at less than the posted speed limit--
which is a rarity.
---
Today was a day to try out the many puddles on
the streets and sidewalks--an opportunity not to
be missed! -

Thu, February 12, 2004 - 1:46 AMHello Loren Singh! Yes, spring is arriving and the trees are starting to let loose their dander (or whatever it is trees let loose.) BF in the mud! Mud mud mud. Sunny mud now, getting a little warmer too.
I'll go to the part this weekend and travel my barefoot circle to acknowledge all of us saying, Hmmm, looks like spring soon!

Re: Spring is here?!
Thu, February 12, 2004 - 11:35 PMHi, Anne--
From about noon till sunset, it is fine BFing weather
here today. From before dawn till noon, though, it
remains chilly. So in the early morning hours, I drive
BF. There's nothing to put me more in touch with
driving than having my BF on the clutch, brake, and
accelerator pedals. The rest of the day I BF it when
I can get away with it. :-) My work requires me to be
"in uniform," so I can only BF it when the "uniform
police" aren't around to harrass me. :-) Such is the
life of a bus driver! -

Fri, February 13, 2004 - 7:16 PMThe temperature almost hit forty today here in VT. I tried to BF it but didn't make it very far in the snow. I don't know how my dog does it every day. -

Re: Spring is here?!
Sat, February 14, 2004 - 2:04 PMHi, Paul--
My lower temperature limit is 32F, or freezing.
Around here, that is when I see frost on the rooftops and
on the ground. At 32F and above, one can BF as long
as one keeps moving (walking, jogging, running, etc.).
---
It doesn't snow here, but I sure wouldn't try BFing
where there is snow on the ground. The only time I
have been in a heavy-duty snowbound place was in
Minnesota a few years ago in January. It was at least
2 feet deep. It never melted during the winter.
One's breath froze in the mornings, and scraping
ice off car windshields was a daily ritual. One could
get a bad case of frostbite easily in such an
environment if trying to BF.
---
Discretion and self-preservation, as one would have
them, are indeed the better parts of valor! :-) -

Re: Spring is here?!
Sat, February 14, 2004 - 5:19 PMAs a Minnesotan native to the northern plains, perhaps I'm used to it, but I've surprised even myself at the sub-zero temperatures in which I've been able to barefoot. I don't mind walking on packed snow, or ice, as long as I keep moving. It's deep snow on the tops of my feet and bare concrete that seem to get to me.
About a month ago, I had to go into work late. The job involved making several back & forth trips between my office & two data centers, and I went about my work without reallly even noticing the cold. Granted, I was only outside for brief periods, repeatedly crossing the parking lot to & from the car. In fact, I was distinctly more irritated at the overuse of ice melt on the sidewalks than the cold or snow. It wasn't until I got home and glanced at the thermometer outside the back door and saw that it was -12f! I don't think that if I had *known* that it was -12 that I would have so casually gone out barefoot. Perhaps there is something to mind over matter.

Re: Spring is here?!
Tue, February 17, 2004 - 3:41 PMI have just returned from Arizona.
I spent a few nights camping "RUFF IT STYLE" in the middle of some hills just out of Sedona in the middle of cactus, agave, scorpions,in the cold...By day light searched for small but sparkley crystal groups called "Droosy" by rock collectors. Called "BEAUTIFUL BEYOND WORDS" by me. When I get the photos I will post them here.
It was a wonderful time and I thought of many of you. I would see your many faces as I have seen them in your profiles.
Sunsets and Rises all so wonderful and unique. If anything, do not wait until you can go somewhere to see a sunset or sunrise, the power is wonderful...And Healing.
Enjoy what nature you do have around you. It maybe just the sanity you are missing and NEED in your life. You can be surprised how comforting the smell of flowers (uncut) is compaired to cut. The feel of warm earth under bare feet. The sounds of leaves singing in the wind. Birds singing in the branches. When I go camping I am visiting the greatest being of all, Mother Earth! And to KNOW her to really know her is not to be alone, but to be at peace with in and with all.
I love you all and for every billion star I saw clearly I wished you all the Power of Healing! Nikki

As far as barefootin' goes, I have a confession: last week we had an unusual snow storm and got 7 inches. I was out on my porch and had the urge to take off my slippers and stand barefoot in the snow. How *refreshing*!
Thanks for the invitation to your tribe, Loren.

Re: Spring is here?!
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 5:15 PMWow. The original post here was more than 4 years ago! Well here it is today, March 30, 2008. In this area we had a sunny, breezy day with a temperature of about 60F degrees. The urge to go barefoot walking was irresistible, and I gave in to temptation. The pavement was just the right temperature--not too hot, not too cold--just warm. In the neighborhood there was grass, sand, and tan-bark surfaces to walk over in addition to cement and asphalt. When I returned home, my feet were all rosy (from the increased circulation) and happy. My barefoot walk was the best part of my today. -

Re: Spring is here?!
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 6:41 AMSpring seems to have been playing games with my home. Yesterday morning seemed to promise a beautiful 40, maybe 50 degree day, so I wore sandals to the university. by the time my morning activities were finished there was an inch of slushy snow! It was impossible to wear the sandals, so I rolled up my pants, and barefooted it . it was unplanned and quite the experience. I've never felt puddles of cold slush before! I wouldn't recommend doing it for very long, but it's totally worth it. And you can imagine the confused looks I got from other people walking by that were bundled for winter!
