I did for about a week and it was awesome but everyone kept looking at me like I was crazy, so I put back on my shoes...

Yes, I have! It's a lot of fun, and it's much easier on your
feet, legs, and ankles if you do it on the grass. So about
the only time I do it is at the nearby city park. Running BF
on cement or asphalt wound build up your callouses,
but would be very hard on your leg bones and joints.
The shock and vibration, as well as the skin abrasion
from a hard, rough surface would do your feet no good
    in the long run.
    ---
The activity has its dyed-in-the-wool devotees, however.
There are whole Web sites devoted to barefoot running.
    ---
Also, many of the marathon runners in the Olympics--
many of whom hail from East Africa--do all of their
    training and competitive running barefoot.
    ---
Zola Budd--who competed first for South Africa, and
    then for England--always ran BF.
    ---
If you are thinking about doing it regularly, please
share your experiences and insights with us!

I love being barefoot as often as possible, even in resuraunts and fast food places when I can get away with it. That's one of the reasons I love HUGE legged pants so I can bend my knees just enough to cover my toes untill I can get to my table or pick up my order. I try to keep a pair of flip-flops in the car just in case. Does anyone remember those 'shoes' which were just a thin foam pad shaped like the your foot that was like a sticker you could stick to the bottom of your foot??? I never tried them (seemed like it'd be too weird) but I saw them around for a while years ago.
OH, I'm Willow May, by the way, thanks for creating the tribe!

Yes my feet were sore for the first few times landing ball to heel but not any more they got used to it. I got over the people looking at me. I found that walking on gravel will really toughen up the soles.
