I was living at a zen center a few years ago, and had a problem with boredom when I was meditating. My teacher told me to walk outside, barefoot, on pebbles. It was amazing! It brought sensations to every part of my body...and I mean EVERY part of my body. I guess it was a form of reflexology?
Anyway...I'd love to go for barefoot walks/hikes/climbs in nature. Never done it before. Are there any people in SF who are willing to let me tag along? Also, do people in the city walk barefoot? I'm a little paranoid about stepping on needles...even at the beach I worry about that.

Re: I need a BF mentor in San Fran:)
Sun, March 27, 2005 - 4:34 PMBarefoot walkers become very observant about where they plant their next
step! It is possible to barefoot in S.F.--just beware of the detritus, animal
excrement, and other street stuff.

To give yourself an introduction, you might try barefooting over at Muir
Woods in Marin. You would be barefooting in pleasant surroundings, and
you could take it from there in expanding the horizon of your barefooting
experiences.

Good luck!
