Rough or smooth?

There seem to be 2 schools of thought among barefooters as to how to maintain the feet.

Some folks like 'em rough and let the callouses and dirt stains build up over the years. Almost like badges of honor.

Others, like myself, love a good soak, scrub, and massage (when I'm lucky enough to have that opportunity) at the end of the day. Once a week at a minimum.

How do you like to keep yours?

P.S. I'll post a pic so you can check mine out.

mine are rough + certainly have been awhile. down right crazily so @ times.
but as this hibernation season is beginning, i am looking to strengthen further my relationship w/ these wonderful feet of mine, + start exchanging more energy w/ them thru soaks + massage.
i'm sure we're all 3 looking forward to this!

    love + feet,

Not really rough, they're smooth, but not soft, probably due to the carpet in my room. What counts it that they are thick, and hard. I built up such a huge callus that the surface could be sanded smooth yet maintain the solid protection. I have never been a fan of soaks or pampering foot care, they soften and become sensetive for the next day or so.

On the other hand, a massage with sesame oil (before a yoga session in example) does wonders for the internal mechanics of the foot. It loosens and heals without softening.

I find a good scrubbing once a week with a soft brush will keep them cleen and stain free and It kind of polishes the callouses. That way they look good but there still tuff

ROUGH is the way to go, gotta be able to handle any and all terrains, i like to build up my callouses so i can run on small rocks if need be, the look is not the concern here people, use those feet as tools! you wouldnt use a dull tool would u? =)

If the look is not the concern here then what is exactly? I think there should be a balance between sensual and tough without sacrificing one for the other. Why turn your feet into Doc Martens and loose the other advantages of being barefoot.

Rough here. Not so much a deliberate goal; more the natural result of everyday use.

Sometimes they get far too rough - I get dreadful cracking of heel callouses, and wish I was self-disciplined enough to stick to a regular maintenance program. Instead, I tend to wait until they're *really*, *really* bad, then apply intensive remedies until they're in a tolerable state again, then let it slide. *ho-hum*

Smooth, yet tough seems ideal to me.

Rough? What if I share my bed with someone new? That can be a bit unpleasant if the someone is not pro-barefoot.

What a great topic, I'm so glad I joined this tribe!
