Has anyone found good shoes for a barefoot oriented person that has extremely sensitive feet? I told my CEO that I can do much better work barefoot (or in slippers, in the office), and she told me she hopes I get a few good pairs. So now I'm known for the manager that wears slippers.

On my own time though I want to find a pair of shoes that allow me to feel the earth better, but protect my soles enough to be able to walk more than a few feet (!!!) at a time.

I have a pair of leather Tevas that make my feet feel good. Next best thing to walking barefoot. But if you must where shoes, I suggest a pair of Rockports. I work at a Gas & Market & spend 8 hrs a night up on my feet. I used to come home walking funny & feet killing me. I went through 5 pairs of shoes before I found my Rockports. Aching feet are gone. I believe they make Rockports for womyn but not sure. They are very expensive though.

If you really have sensitive feet, Birkenstocks or the
"faux" variety probably wouldn't do. Have you tried
    soft-soled moccasins?
    ---
How rigid are the "shoe police" at your workplace?
With Birks, flip-flops, or moccasins, you could just
slip them off while your feet are under your desk,
and no one would be the wiser.
    ---
BUT (ahem), if you must pass muster appearance-wise
when you step in the front door on the way to your
office or desk, then your choice may be limited.
    ---
On the trains in this area, I have seen women wear
jogging shoes (sneakers) on the train, only to
take them off and change into "dressy" shoes when
they enter the premises of where they work.
    Hope this isn't your situation!

I am puzzeled by the women who commute in sneakers. I have often found myself to be much more comfortable in "dressy" womens shoes than sneakers, the soles on sneakers are often too thick and the shoes are too heavy for me compared to being barefoot, I actualy like nice leather flats or loafers, or even a very well balanced "high" heel when appearnace is an issue, the trick with dressy shoes is finding one that fits the shape of your foot. I have very long narrow feet, so heels often fit better than sneakers, and they let the top of my foot breathe.

I have also had good luck with moccosans, the kind with no soles, made to be slippers, some can look remarkably like shoes from the top. I also really like my ECCO sandals, I tried birkinstocks on the advice of my husband and would second the opinon that they are not a good choice for barefooters, I really could not feel the ground in them. I also had a pair of jelly shoes by wanted that were really comfortable, but they wore out very quickly, also look into getting custom shoes made, I have seen people who do this at renesance faires, but havent been able to afford them for myself.

not sure if these are the correct name, but ive got several pairs of 'chinese slippers' that i got at a phunky shop in NY. They dont have any support, but they have REALLY thin soles and the tops are made out of thin cloth. They basically look like mary janes. i wear them when i go somewhere that i need nice footwear.

    heres a link: www.thecostumestore.co.uk/mall/...11.jpg

my black cloth ones were $5 and the velvety ones were $8. theyre cheap, comfortable, and look nice.

    Hope its of some help!
